Red ArrowRed Arrow Fixing "Error: Importing a certificate failed because of unknown reasons." Red ArrowRed Arrow
• AIM 5.5/5.9
• Windows 2000/XP
When trying to import a new security certificate into AOL Instant Messenger, you may get the error: "Error: Importing a certificate failed because of unknown reasons." I don't know what causes this error, but I do know how to fix it.

• Exit AIM completely. (Don't just minimize it.)
• Go to C:\Documents and Settings\[Windows Login]\Application Data\Aim\[Problem Screen Name]. If you don't know how to get to your C: drive, check under My Computer. The items in the brackets [] need to be replaced with your Windows user name, and the AOL screen name causing the error.
• In this folder you should see the files cert8.db, key3.db, and Security.INI. Delete all three files.
• Start AIM again. Now go back and import your new certificate.
